camps has an allAboriginal Board with members currently from Darwin and kiwi. We strive to maintain a minimum 60 Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander staff body. camps has been operating for 30 years and came into being with the promote of the Northern Territory’s secluded communities and the diocese of the Northern Territory’s Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Churches. Our clients and their families arrive from all regions of the Northern Territory with some tomorrow from other states in the Top End. Mission camps is a family focused Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organization whose mission is to bear evidence based assistance to overcome problems caused by substance misuse, while raising public awareness and advocating for client and community need. It is also essential that we communicate these needs to the public and that we contribute to government policy. Application for membership of camps is open to both Aboriginal and nonAboriginal people who are residents of the Northern Territory, and are openly accepted by their family and community as maintaining a culturally responsible lifestyle in relation to alcohol and other drugs. They must be accepted by family and community as maintaining a culturally responsible and sober lifestyle and they must agree with camps’ policies, procedures and practices. We also have an IOU to run a pilot training program for our clients to yield labor ready skills through YouthWorxNT and BA National. Darren comes from the Barkley Region and brings a prosperity of knowledge to his role as chairperson and is currently active within the NT Government. Henry is a committed Board member, continuing to lend his promote behind his retirement. She has worked extensively in both camps and in Centrecare in field labor and AD counseling. Honest Ah Mat has worked all of his life to improve the lives of Indigenous people in the Northern Territory and is actively involved with a number of local sporting associations. Kay Behan accepted the Vice Chairperson's role on the Board this year behind a long history of commitment to camps as a preceding Chairperson and Staff member. Over the former 20 years she worked with the Department of Community Services based in Broken Hill managing services from Corner Country to the South Australian and Victorian borders and then nine years with a Sydney based not for profit youth service managing residential treatment and community services as Deputy Director for Youth off the Streets. I felt I could assist camps deliver while reflecting on some core principles based on capacity building for Aboriginal people, busy alongside the camps Board and staff while bringing my leadership experience in the NCO sector to the role of CEO.’. Aoife brings immense enthusiasm for her role and operates from a strength based approach which fits very healthy with camps mission. As a Certified Accountant she has extensive experience busy in government and private sectors, as healthy as in non government organizations. She worked in Timor Lester, the Solomon Islands and papa New Guinea as a financial adviser and mentor, building the skills of her counterparts in local agencies. Ora is now back with camps Well Families' Department’s AD Program as Team Leader along with individual case management, I wholeheartly believe camps will flourish and grow because of its unique spiritually and sense of peace. The staff are passionate and committed to providing the best service and promote for all of our clients, and with their dedication we will attain this. Having worked in various health, community, aged care and disability services and experienced the sure benefits of premature intervention, I am passionate about developing and implementing pathways which will enable families and children the opportunity to access services which will aid them to reach their full potential. camps AD treatment program has developed over 30 years and is about people and their families tomorrow together to deal with their substance use issues in a safe and supportive place. Each client is also assigned a case manager to aid them work towards the goals that they have set during their stay at camps, as well as supporting clients in accessing further supports in their communities upon completion of the program. Clients also enjoy a variety of recreational activities during the three months in the program, which includes attendance at community events and family outings to many of Darwin’s family friendly recreational parks. Many families who have participated in the Healthy Families Program trust it to be a vast opportunity for the total family to work together towards a better coming away from substance use. Having a Health Urge Worker than part of the Healthy Families team at camps means that participants of the program have onside access to urge for issues including medication management, wound care, chronic disease management and prevention as well as many other health related issues. The camps Health Promote Worker also provides educational sessions as portion of the Well Families Program aimed at providing information about chronic disease management such as Diabetes, while also facilitating other services providing information sessions that compliment the program.
