With 85 per cent of the population living on the coastal fringe, and a maritime industry worth 47 billion per annul, the Australian community and economy depend on effective management of coastal waters. For over 40 years the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) has played a pivotal role in providing this information for Australia’s tropical northern waters, and providing authoritative, impartial advice on key issues. AIMS's research effort is designed to face the challenges facing our marine ecosystems and the requirements of our stakeholders. Fisheries, offshore oil and gas, mining, reef tourism and aquaculture have all benefited from AIMS research geared towards the care and sustainable development of marine resources. This close repository of data and environmental intelligence allows AIMS and other researchers to quantify system changes, and to understand context behind research that underwrites future concern of Australia's marine biodiversity and marine economy. Stateoftheart infrastructure underpins our lengthy term, large scale and wide ranging research, and is housed in our three facilities. They have also allowed us to gather comprehensive data sets. And, even more importantly, access to our facilities allows our research and industry partners to further the collective knowledge of Australia’s unique marine ecosystems and the challenges they face. The Australian Institute of Marine Science is committed to active with industry partners to generate the baseline research, knowledge and tools to tackle the marine science issues they face, both now and into the future. Over the previous 20 years, we have worked closely with partners across many industries. We emphasis a collaborative approach to occupied with these industry partners. AIMS invites proposals for provision of the subsequent services or supplies: The Institute is committed to occupational health and safety (OHS) and to safeguarding our environment. We labor with our employees to provide a sound workplace. Everyone who works at AIMS is required to complete inductions, and our workplaces are safer as a result. The three main inductions, each consisting of a brief video, a written manual and an online questionnaire are: General safety, Fieldwork safety and Laboratory safety. We play a pivotal role in providing important scale, lengthy term and world class research that helps governments, industry and the wider community to make informed decisions about the management of Australia’s marine estate. We are achieving this through innovative scientific and technological research, and with the assist of our people, industry and research partnerships, infrastructure, and comprehensive data sets. Established in 1972, AIMS was an explorer in its early years: defining the Huge Barrier Reef and its biodiversity, and introducing Australians to unusual marine ecosystems across northern Australia. In the preceding 20 years, our focus has turned to monitoring and understanding the changes we see in these ecosystems, from Western Australia’s Scott Reef to Darwin’s coastal waters to the Great Barrier Reef.
